Ever listen to "The Decemberists - The Hazards of Love" Album?

If so, Here is an exert from the Song Annan Water That Reminds me of oddworld, as abe is talking to his fellow mudokons after not saving all 300. This is almost like him asking them to get by.

Hi, can I ask for screenshots of slogs, images of slogs.. other than the ones in the oddworld image library because obviously I can already get them. I'm desparately needing a slog in a neutral pose (ie. not sleeping, not walking, not running, not barking.) But I want the walking, running, sleeping, barking pictures too (just not as important).

Help much appreciated :)

I guess this thread spawns from that humourous thread declaring that a certain somebody "I GOT A BOOK". Perhaps it should belong there, though that seems to be the current thread for the Oddworld Inhabitants First Ten Years.

So here's my proposal for the forums and Lorne if he's spying.

Although Slag's initial statement's a little ambitious, if not a mite bland, it has some merit.
I'd quite like a Lorne Lanning book publication in the near future; something from Oddworld, something in-verse with the stories Oddworld tells, but in the vein of something 'non-fiction'.

Perhaps a Glukkon endorsed tourist guide to the main cities of Mudos.
Or a parody of Darwin's On the Origin of Species, along the lines of 'Odd, the Origin of Species' where we get to see Oddworldian theories about how things came to be and family trees connecting species together.

For those familiar with Terry Pratchet's Discworld and Joss Whedon's Firefly, perhaps somewhat in the vein of the Streetmap of Ankh-Morpork, or the Nanny Ogg's Cookbook; or along the lines of the bonus material from Firefly & Serenity, like the foil map of the 'Verse or the banknotes in the form of 'Verse credits.

I guess it all depends on whether such projects would make enough money, which is unlikely at present, but in the future, possible? Also upon whether Lorne would be up to it, as a creative director, I'm sure he's somewhat nifty with editorial writing and would know how to slot together some ideas of his into a coherent publication. Concept art of course, depends, yet I'm sure there'd be a way if he had something to write about.

What are your opinions?

Are there any female Mudokons? How do you guys think they reproduce. I know this is a stupid question, but I have honestly never seen a female mudokon. Now that I think of it ... I haven't seen a FEMALE RACE on Oddworld? Except maybe the non - humanoid races, I really don't know how to tell.:fuzblink:

Trying to use sculptris, modelling a slog. Here's how it looks at the moment. Spent a few hours on it :S...

It needs an awful lot of work, I know. I'd probably restart it, since it is my first model I've tried on Sculptris, and also having only very little 3d modelling expierience in other software.

Just thought I'd see what sort of comments it brings :D
Daft.Eng: You know when the triangles get very crowded and begin to overlap each other and cause a sort of hole? How do you fix that? Also, how do you select areas (cause I want to use 'Reduce selected' tool)

I personally believe that its going to be about a man that is actually a machine that try to save the world from poverty. Buts he has feelings for a girl and gets sidetrack from his main goal. Yeah i don't know what to think about it really since Lorne didn't really give out anything about it :/

Entoidia- inspired by Stranger

I have two series so far that I want to do a western theme for- The Jurassic Period (Shelved for now, but in a constant state of revision), a dinosaur-themed comic set in the Late Jurassic, and Entoidia.

Whereas The Jurassic Period takes place long before human life as we know it, Entoidia takes place far into the future on a post-human Earth. The continents have all shifted back into each other to form the theoretical land mass known as NeoPangea.

Earth has been through many changes since Mankind's extinction/exodus, not all of them entirely natural (though, due to the way Earth was left and how it adapted, the line between a natural event and an unnatural one seems to have blurred somewhat). Some of these changes helped to sculpt the main characters of this brave new world. In our absence, and through several extinctions, many of the more complex species of animals have gone extinct.

Arthropods, though, proved to have an uncanny ability to adapt. True, many arthropod species died out at various points in history, but the ones who remained were able to stretch their evolutionary branches. So, evolve they did, and with influences from Earth's new, less than familiar nature, some gained self-awareness, why not? And through this process, the arthropods developed more humanlike intelligence and complex societies...

Which brings us to the beginning of our story- the Western theme. Much of Pangaea Ultima is unexplored, whether due to its vast expanse or the land being guarded by the untamed wilderness or its inhabitants, both sentient and not, but the more advanced societies march ever onward with reckless abandon. But societies like these often require protection, whether it be for individuals or for entire towns. Especially when your attacker is a 10 foot tall crustacean bastard with a huge gun and a posse with guns of their own.

But who will defend these people from the lawlessness and greed that plagues their beloved lichen-covered plains? Will a hero rise to the challenge? Perhaps three heroes?

Well, if your check don't bounce, then sure.

And that, friends, is a post for another time. Consider this a placeholder for now, since I don't have much art to show for this series yet.

Here's what I do have:

I suck at landscapes.

As the title says, this series is inspired by Stranger. Not the game, but the character. When art for Stranger was released, I was disappointed. I've always been a huge fan of Farzad's work and when they got rid of him, it felt like part of Oddworld had been lost. We could have gotten something that looked and felt like Oddworld, but instead, we got chicken people, various amphibian people and a mutant, furry version of Clint Eastwood. Although I've since gotten used to it, at the time I was a little disappointed, so I designed my own version of what I thought Stranger should look like.

I loved the design that came from that so much that I created this series around it.

I'm working on something big. I'm planning on doing the whole of Abe's Oddysee in Cartoon. I used some sprites that Carnix made and I drew the background myself.

These positions are available:
1. Someone who can draw some of the backgrounds in cartoon compared to the real backgrounds. Sorta like this.

2. I need someone with some experience with Game Maker 7, or 8. Particularly 8. They can perhaps do some levels once I get the backgrounds and put them together.
3. I need a spriter. Someone who can do some actions for Abe. I need the following sprites, in either GIF form or like this:

All rights to that image are to Carnix. I did not make these. I also have his permission to use them.
I need these sprites:
Abe rolling,
Abe crouching,
Abe throwing a grenade/rock/meat,
Abe mounting Elum,
Abe chanting,
Abe on Elum.
I need Scrabs and Paramites also. I need them still, running and eating Abe's flesh (for when he dies).
Like I said, either in GIF form or like the image above would be great.

If everyone could pitch in on this game it would be FANTASTIC! :fuzgrin:

Oddworld voice emulations

So yeah; I was messing around with the pitch transformer is Logic Pro when I decided, wouldn't it be cool if I used it to emulate character's voices from Oddworld? I've been messing around with pitch changing for a while now and I think I've created some really good settings to help re-create Lorne Lanning's fantastic voice acting.

Heres the first test example; obviously I can't match Lorne's voice perfectly, but I think this is a good attempt:

(P.S. Scrabtrapman; don't worry, I'm still working on the remix you requested...I've got the drums done but I'm still working on the other instruments; it might be a while but hopefully it'll be done soon.) :)

Games similar to the abe games

Does anyone know of any games of a similar style to the first two abe games?
As in, the more realistic platforming rather than either mario-esque ones or run and gunners like metroid/castlevania etc. Apparently 'Another World' is good so I'm testing that now but other suggestions would be good... as I've now played both oddysee and exodus ad nauseum.

Also they brought back the "Lost the lead" and "Tied the leader" things from Halo 2 that's wonderful.

New Oddworld Fangame: Abe's Oddysee in Cartoon - Scrabania Complete.

Okay, I've done 3 Scrabaina scenes, I can make more but I only had like 2 weeks so, yeah. I'll make 3 Paramonia scenes next, then I'll start making the WHOLE GAME if I get good feedback. Fixed the sound guys. Includes: Rupture Farms scenes 1 and 2, and Scrabania scenes 1 and 2. Sorry there is one thing I forgot to get rid of in all Scrabania levels. I forgot the hide the green floor guidelines. I can easily get rid of that later when I do Paramonia. The last Scrabania level is a bit dodgy too, once again, I can fix that :fuzwink:

If you've already seen my Scrab thread, you know the drill, if not, then read on...

So guys, i've just finished my second year at uni doing computer games technology, since next year i'd like to venture more in to organic modelling, i've made a Scrab, so i thought why not make a Paramite!
I thought i'd post a kind of Work In Progress thread and get some feedback from the guys in the know (you guys).

Please understand that i have no knowledge of anatomy ;)

What i am working towards is a high poly mesh, which i can the retopologise to create a game standard mesh of probably around 9000-1200 triangles...

So, here's the side view versions 1 and 2

And the front...ish view...

As with the Scrab, criticism is most welcome ;)
